iVT Expo Delivered Great Conversations & Premium Education
The Turntide team exhibited at iVT Expo in August 2024 for the third year in a row. The team enjoys this show because the attendees are mostly engineers looking for solutions to help them design low- or zero-emission vehicles and equipment. The staff at the Turntide booth always includes engineers who specialize in the components that drive hybrid and electric systems. We shared all our technologies with booth visitors, including:
- Axial flux motors’ importance in the electrification journey
- Power electronics (inverters and controllers)
- Energy storage
- Thermal solutions
Axial Flux Motor’s Importance in the Electrification Journey
During the event, several thought leaders presented on topics from the market and future of electrification to the components needed for a successful, battery-electric system. Matrishvan Raval, product lead for Turntide, discussed axial flux motors’ importance in the electrification journey. The presentation compared axial flux motors with radial flux motors.
For radial flux motors, the torque is proportional to the square of the diameter multiplied by the length. With an axial flux machine, the torque is proportional to the cube of the diameter, and it has no significant influence on the length of the motor. As a result, axial flux motors provide more torque and often up to two to four times more power at 50% less weight, depending on the motor’s size.Axial flux motors are also flatter than radial flux motors, often called pancake motors. Because of this size difference, axial flux motors are ideal for space-constrained applications.
Matrishvan also discussed the axial flux motor’s importance in the electrification journey with Charged magazine’s Greg Schulz. Check out the video to learn more.
iVT Expo 2025
The Turntide team will be at the 2025 iVT Expo as well. We look forward to sharing new technologies and having great conversations again. The 2025 Chicago dates are August 20 and August 21, 2025. We hope you’ll visit us at Booth 605.
