Hybrid Systems & the Electrified Future of Mobility
A practical, application‑specific route to lower emissions and a stronger bottom line—powered by Turntide’s axial flux motors and power electronics designed to work together.

55 kW to 1 MW modular axial flux platform
Drop‑in packaging for faster OEM integration
Motor + inverter engineered together for hybrid modes
Hybrid is the fastest path to meaningful emissions and cost reduction for heavy-duty duty cycles—and Turntide is the platform built to deploy it quickly.

Electrification Is Not a Single Path
Hybrid Systems, the Solution for the Critical Middle
Across on‑highway, off‑highway, marine, and industrial sectors, decarbonization is rarely linear. Duty cycles, infrastructure gaps, regulatory diversity, and cost constraints demand flexible powertrain strategies, not one‑size‑fits‑all solutions.
Hybrid systems are no longer a compromise or stopgap. They are a durable, scalable architecture that allows OEMs to balance energy density, uptime, emission compliance, range, and performance—application by application.
Compliance with emission/noise rules via electric‑only operation when required
Range confidence without sacrificing efficiency
Electrify existing platforms without a full redesign
Improve OEM program economics and end-user total cost of ownership (TCO) through fuel reduction, fewer engine hours, and simpler integration trade-offs

Why OEMs Choose Turntide:
A Hybrid Propulsion Platform (Motor + Inverter)
Hybrid systems require fast, efficient power flow and control across multiple modes—assist, traction, regen, hydraulics, and generation. The Turntide advantage is that our axial flux motors and power electronics are engineered to win together, enabling OEMs to integrate faster and scale with confidence.
Packaging freedom
Axial flux technology supports space‑constrained integration and flexible mounting—critical for hybrid retrofits and new platforms.
Torque‑dense control
High torque at low speed capability improves control and blending behavior across hybrid modes.
System performance
(not just parts)
Turntide emphasizes integrated platforms where key drive components are designed to operate as one system.
Turntide Enables:
Pre-paired motors and controllers speed time to market for OEMS with reduced system risk
High efficiency across broad speeds, ranges, and loads
Consistent performance during frequent mode transitions
Scalable architectures adaptable across multiple platforms

Hybrid Architectures in Practice: Series and Parallel Systems
Series
Hybrid Systems
In a series hybrid architecture, propulsion is fully electric. The engine is decoupled from the driveline and instead powers a generator that charges a battery that powers the traction motor. This configuration allows for precise, low‑speed control, electric‑only operation, and simplified mechanical layouts.
Axial flux motors enhance series hybrid performance by delivering high torque density and efficiency for electric propulsion. Their compact geometry supports flexible mounting locations, while fast torque response improves drivability during generator start‑stop events and frequent load changes. For range‑extended electric platforms, this architecture provides a highly adaptable foundation.

Parallel
Hybrid Systems
In a parallel hybrid architecture, the internal combustion engine and electric machine are mechanically coupled to the driveline. Either power source — or both together — can deliver torque to the wheels or work functions, with regenerative braking recovering energy back into the battery.
This architecture enables strong efficiency at steady operating speeds while providing electric assist during launch, low‑speed operation, or peak load events. The compact form factor and high torque density of axial flux motors support in‑line integration with minimal drivetrain rework, improving torque blending, transient response, and overall system smoothness.
